First of all, in case it’s too vague to decipher, the name of the blog comes from the chemical symbol for iron – Fe, mainly because the underlying theme of this blog will be my quest to become an Ironman athlete. It also seemed appropriate for a self-proclaimed geek like myself, even though Chemistry was probably my worst subject in school I do own a skirt with the Periodic Table of Elements on it and love all things geek, so it still feels fitting. The rest of the title is in reference to food, obviously, but also the drive and hunger it’ll take to make it to Ironman (the ultimate ‘fierce extreme’).

I’ve always seen myself as more of a fiction writer than a ‘real-world’ writer. I like to think it’s because I have an overactive imagination – every time I tried to start a diary growing up I’d get so bored with my actual life that I’d quickly regress into fictional musings. Hopefully I can stop from doing that here (and hopefully my life is a little bit more interesting now that I’m not 12). I’ll do my best to belong. I’m just happy enough to be surrounded by fellow addicts.

Jess is currently:

- training for triathlons and beyond

- working in television (unhappily)

- living with a wonderful mannish boy

- contemplating sommelier school

- dreaming of being a writer

- cooking up a storm

- biking around town

- trying to learn this crazy digital age of photography (my previous, and first love, camera was a beautiful Olympus OM-2, circa 1975, which still works beautifully but does not make for efficient internet publication. Pictures from this camera may still pop up from time to time.)

- secretly hoping to save the world

By the way, this is me:

I’m 25, a Capricorn, and I like sleeping in hammocks on the beach with a bowl of spicy Thai green curry curled up at my side. I’ve only done this once, but I still consider it a defining characteristic.
